Sid Mashburn, nestled in the outskirts of Atlanta, Georgia is the foundation for the dreams of menswear aficionados around the country. The brand’s aesthetic is an ambitious blend of modern menswear, traditional prep and relaxed southern style. More impressive than their collection of suiting, ties, Alden’s and accessories is the beautiful décor of the store itself. Paintings and taxidermy animals line the walls and ornate rugs dull the sound of hard leather soled shoes on the floors below.
We swung by to meet the folks at Sid Mashburn, which opened only recently in 2007, after spending some time with friends and family in Georgia over Thanksgiving week. It’s always a challenge navigating a shoot in a store during regular business hours, but the folks at Mashburn rolled out their best southern hospitality, offering beers and refreshments from the moment we walked in the door.
Sid Mashburn’s pieces are a combination of iconic heritage brands (Aldens, Levi’s and Max Bills) and some creations of their own design. Put in Sid’s own words, the store draws inspiration from “Gordan Parks and Steve McQueen, from Charlie Feathers to Belle and Sebastian, from the 1971 BMW 3.0CS to the BMW 5 diesel station wagon – a fresh interpretation of old standards.”
Unfortunately, high end service and beautiful clothing comes at a price, so if you make it down to Atlanta (or over to their website) you should be willing to shell out most of this month’s rent payment.
Finally, don’t feel like you need to leave your lady at home, either. Sid’s sister store, Ann Mashburn, neatly abuts the men’s side of the store and offers a wide array of clothes and jewelry.
Sid Mashburn is on the honorable mission to not only help the men of America dress better, but also to make the experience as a whole one that’s memorable. Spending an hour in the store isn’t like your average trip to a department store; the staff, the ambiance and the décor all make it one that you’ll want to return to.
A special thanks to the folks at Sid Mashburn for having us.
