He’s a man born of the internet. Much like the perplexingly popular YouTube celebrities, Nick Wooster has been crowned by the digital masses. If you’re at all into menswear, you’ve likely seen him splashed across the glossy pages of a dog-eared GQ or endlessly featured on fashion week roundup Tumblr posts.
Wooster made a name for himself in the sartorial world not by hanging his hat on a major brand label, but rather by being unabashedly himself when he picks out his clothing choices. Just ask any of his 340,000 Instagram followers.
We frequently talk about putting a masculine spin on fashion here, and Wooster brings that by the truckloads. Between the groomed grey beard, and arm tattoos that peek out from under his sleeves, he has somehow found the fulcrum point between fashion and masculinity.
Wooster makes us believe that there are no sartorial rules. If you’re 50, you can dress like you’re 20. If you want to wear shorts with a suit – fuck it – just own it. Finally, screw popular opinion, if you want to smoke cigarettes, do it and apologize to no one.
While we can’t pretend to rise to the levels of a guy like Wooster right away, we can certainly learn important lessons. Be totally and entirely who you want to be when you get dressed in the morning. Anything else is letting yourself down.
Amazing art, as always, by the lovely Gabi Anderson.
